The play, which includes three bright one-act plays by Chekhov – “The Bear”, “The Night Before the Trial” and “The Proposal” – became a real theatrical holiday. Each of them reveals unique facets of the great playwright’s talent, mixing irony, humor and observation of human nature.
In “The Bear”, the audience is immersed in a tense but comical duel of characters – the widow Elena Popova and the determined landowner Grigory Smirnov. “The Night Before the Trial” reveals another side of Chekhov – with a touch of drama and philosophical reflections, and “The Proposal” gives a light and funny look at attempts to resolve family and marital issues.
The director skillfully combined these works, emphasizing their common theme: the difficult nature of human relationships. Minimalistic scenery and talented acting enhanced the emotions, and the audience became witnesses of a lively, touching and funny theatrical evening.
